Well Spoonbill season 2011 is already upon us and I don’t know about your neck of the woods but man that was a long winter, global warming my foot!  Just like last year we have another busy year planned.

April 2nd we have our first of two spoonbill tournaments.  Start time is 7:00 AM and at the strike of 3:00 PM the tournament ends.  There’s no such thing as a late check-in for a fishing tournament so allow your selves plenty of time to get back.  Best bet is to weigh in a truly big and potential money fish as soon as you get them in the boat as they have a tendency to immediately begin losing water weight.  Please remember no tied off fish allowed for any of the two tournaments. This first tournament will pay out 6 places.  Our second tournament called the “Last Snag” is scheduled for the last Saturday of April which this year falls on Saturday.  We’ll pay out the top three places and typically this is a real big money tournament.  Same start and finish times.  After 7:00 registration is disallowed.  Be sure to arrive early and take advantage of Linda’s “World Class” Snagger’s Breakfast Buffet before each tournament.

Our favorite DJ Andrew wll be at the Old Oar House Memorial Weekend, Friday and Saturday nite come out and let Andrew show you a real good time! Also, we consider being an integral part of the local Community absolutely essential to any small business and this year is no exception.  Over Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 29th at 1:00 PM we’ll begin uncoiling from the lower parking lot as we once again attempt to re-break the Missouri State record for the longest parade.  Last year we had almost 100 golf carts, fire trucks, bicycles, motorcycles and mopeds and anything with wheels that rolls and this year will be no different.  Please decorate your favorite wheeled buggy in the true fashion of a Memorial Day Parade and join us in showing your patriotism and thanks to our Veterans and loved ones as we project our patriotism throughout the local community. Let’s not ever forget the true meaning of Memorial Day which is all too often a sad ending to the blank check our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines wrote to the American public when they first raised their right hand and enlisted to serve this awesome country.  Freedom is not free.

July 16th marks our 30th annual “Miss Raft Race Beauty Queen” contest as we once again prepare for the greatest raft races ever recorded on the Lake of the Ozarks over Labor Day weekend. The “2011 Raft Race Queen” will once again lead the procession of over 100 boats as they follow the racers. If you’re interested in becoming a contestant all you’ll need is a $50 sponsorship fee from any of the local businesses. No age limit and when I say I’ve seen some sexy grandmothers in the past I’m serious! J Following the contest we’ll hold a mini auction.  Please drop off all auction items with Bernie prior to the start of the judging contest.  As always, 100% of all proceeds will once again benefit the Benton County Cancer Hospice.

August 6th marks our annual Lake of the Ozark Channel Hop Poker Run, and 100% of all proceeds are donated to the Twin Lakes Hospice. By definition this is a poker run and after each contestant pays an entrance fee the fun begins as they tour the lake drawing from decks of cards and build their best or worst hand of poker from the local establishment with the object being to win various cash prizes. It’s a great event for a great cause and in addition to supporting the Twin Lakes Hospice it also helps show your support to the local businesses on and around the lake.

August 20th once again marks the Ernie and Linda Campbell, Children’s Mercy Hospital Charity Auction.  This is a truly noble and noteworthy annual event sponsored by Ernie and Linda Campbell which raises money to support this awesome cause.  A little history to this event is Linda and Ernie’s Granddaughter’s life was saved a few years ago as an infant while a patient at Children’s Mercy.  This was Linda’s idea and this incredible event is quickly closing in on proceed donations totaling over $65,000 which is absolutely amazing.  This is their small way of simply saying…. Thank You.

Sept 4th marks the crescendo to our 2011 Summer Season.  Join us for the Annual Labor Day Raft race.  Unless you’ve participated in this race as a contestant or as a spectator words can’t begin to describe the fun you’re going to experience.  For instructions on how to build the raft please look within our website homepage and you should find a link to the instructions.  Similar to the Beauty Contest you’ll need a $50 sponsorship and same as the beauty contest 100% of all proceeds are donated to the Benton County Cancer Hospice. Without a doubt Cancer has touched all of our lives and I can’t think of a better cause to support. Download the Raft Race Rules below in the format that suits your needs.
